In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder...
In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (p. 296): "Progress is born of experience. It is the ripening of mortal man, through which the mortal is dropped for the immortal.'" Relying upon Christian Science for the solution of many human problems, our family has not only achieved right results but has progressed to a higher understanding of and a stronger faith in God, divine Mind, as our only physician, creator, and governor.
When I was a teen-ager, a severe sunburn incapacitated me, and my father, who was not a Christian Scientist, became alarmed and asked for medical treatment for me. But after one week I was still in severe pain and unable to walk. Finally it was agreed that a Christian Science practitioner might be called. Within one day, I was able to bathe, dress, and move about freely. Within a week, all evidence of the sunburn had completely disappeared. I'm still grateful for that healing.
During two recent years, in particular, many errors had to be met in my family. Physical difficulties included colds, viruses, impaired hearing, internal trouble, digestive trouble, and warts. Other experiences included nightmares, accidents, a severe fall, loss, and thefts. Our car was stolen twice within two weeks. I was in a state of general mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion.
But, God is not a specialist; He heals discord of any kind. And this was proved in our experience. Through Christian Science practice and complete reliance upon God, Love, to protect, govern, and preserve man, we emerged from all trials and testing periods stronger, holier, and more devoted to our heavenly Parent. The affirmation of good and the denial of the claims of evil will result in healing when one persistently adheres to Truth. For the loyalty, affection, and support of the practitioner who stood by and did the prayerful work, I'm sincerely thankful.
Christian Science enlightens for all the understanding of God as true substance, the source of man's supply. Lack is just a material limitation which divine Love dispels. Several years ago, during an economic recession, my husband became unemployed. The situation appeared discouraging, for work in his line, which is of a supervisory and technical nature, was available only at the large industrial plants, and these were laying off rather than hiring new employees.
Although he is not a Christian Scientist, my husband agreed that we might enlist the aid of a practitioner. This was done. Shortly thereafter, a friend arranged for an interview for my husband which resulted in employment. He passed a rigid physical examination and overcame the temptations of anxiety, apprehension, and delay while a suitable position was arranged.
A physical healing experienced by our daughter gave evidence of the power of Truth to heal a discordant condition. A wart on her finger grew larger and made writing and the use of the hand inconvenient and painful. We were working in Christian Science on true growth, and we sincerely endeavored to resist the temptation to look at the material evidence. The same practitioner worked prayerfully with us. One day my daughter joyfully reported that the wart was gone. There was not even a mark left on the finger. We were thankful to understand that God removes whatever is erroneous. We cannot accept the false, mortal sense picture while declaring understandingly that the spiritual only is real. To know this is to demonstrate it.
I truly appreciate the privileges of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and of class instruction, and I am grateful for the good work of all who serve the Cause of Christian Science.
