With gratitude and love I should like to share some of the experiences I have had as the result of the application of Christian Science.
I had undergone a cesarean section at the time of the birth of our son, and later I found myself very much depressed and in a fearful state of mind. I had consulted my minister regarding my condition and had had medical examinations, but with no relief. The only answer I received was that I should change my thinking, but I didn't know how. I was full of fear and was afraid to stay alone.
It was about this time that Christian Science was presented to me by a neighbor who knew of my situation. In my distress I called a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. She came to see me, since she lived in the same neighborhood. After I told her my problems, she said: "God loves you," and, "God is Love." She told me that He filled all space and was caring for me and my family. She also told me that there was no fear and that I couldn't fear since God is All. As she declared these truths of God and His infinite love and quoted the statement from the Bible (I John 4:18), "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear," I was completely uplifted. I found confidence and peace in the truth that was being voiced to me.
On the practitioner's recommendation I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. At first I was reluctant to read the book. I couldn't understand how I could be healed by reading a book. But the day came that I was forced to do something. So I turned to the book, and that was the turning point in my life. That day I read until late in the afternoon. When my husband came home, he was so pleased at the way I looked and thought that he encouraged me to keep on.
From that time, whenever fear tried to overpower me, I would read the textbook, Science and Health. This went on for several weeks, and in a very short time I was healed. I had learned to reject the false sense and to replace it with the truth. This healing took place about twenty-two years ago; and in the years since then, our family has had many healings in Christian Science.
At one time our son was having trouble with his ear, which was causing him much pain. He asked me to call a practitioner. Treatment was begun, and in a few days the healing was complete.
I shall always be grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who gave Christian Science to the world, for her steadfast faith in the Word of God; and I am also grateful that she was willing to share Science, so that all who are ready to accept its teachings may do so.
Membership in The Mother Church and a branch church has been a great blessing to me and my family, and I am thankful for having had the privilege of serving as clerk in a branch church.
I am humbly grateful for all the practitioners and teachers and for all the channels for spiritual growth provided by Mrs. Eddy. I should like to express my thanks to God for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and most of all for the understanding that there is but one God and that man is His image and likeness.

Christian Science has been the only physician in our family for many years. One of the many healings that I have experienced was that of a hip and back injury which was sustained when I was about twelve years old. From that time on, I was never really free from pain, although at times it abated.
About nine years ago I fell down the basement steps. Upon regaining consciousness, I realized that I was injured and that the injury was the same as that I had incurred when as a girl I fell from a horse. I immediately declared, "There is no separation of God and man." My husband, who happened to be at home at the time, helped me to a couch, and together we prayed as we are taught to do in Christian Science. It seemed that I might lose consciousness again, but my husband handled this symptom by firm declarations of man's at-one-ment with God.
In the next few days I was able to do everything that needed to be done in the home. There were young children to be taken care of. Treatment was asked for from a practitioner, and an article in the Sentinel was also helpful. As a result of reading it, I realized that the difficulty went back to the day I had fallen off the horse. I had to eliminate that false picture from my thinking. Before very long the healing came. And quite a while afterward, I suddenly realized that for the first time in many years I was completely free from all pain.
Our children have been reared through absolute reliance on Christian Science, and it has been a happy experience. One of the many precious memories we have is that of a healing on Christmas morning. This was the first time I glimpsed something of the real meaning of Christmas.
Our younger child had been ill for several days. The night before Christmas, we had been up most of the night with him, and on Christmas morning he was no better. I asked the practitioner to come to our house. He came and was able to make us see so clearly the great love of the Father for this child and the consequent unreality of the disease that the child got out of bed healed.
When we went downstairs, our young daughter was sitting rather forlornly near the Christmas tree with the unopened packages. The practitioner said to her, "A merry Christmas, Nancy."
She asked, "A merry Christmas?"
Then, seeing our happy faces, she brightened and said, "Oh! It is a merry Christmas!"
And it was the most joyous Christmas we can remember. The healing Christ had come to human consciousness; and that is truly Christmas.
I am continually grateful that Mrs. Eddy provided for the periodicals that come into our home giving us inspiration and healing. I am grateful for every opportunity I have had to serve in a branch church and for class instruction. Christian Science is a Satisfying way of life. I don't know what I would do without it.
