This testimony is an expression of gratitude to God for leading my family and me to Christian Science. After my husband and I had attended several Christian Science lectures and had read issues of The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel which were given to us by friends, we felt we had found the promise of a better life for our family.
Within a short time my husband was promoted, and we were transferred to a city in another section of the country. As soon as we had established our new home, we located the closest Church of Christ, Scientist, because we had decided this was the religion we wanted for our whole family. I had often visited the branch church in the city where we had lived previously, but this was the first time I had had the joy of enrolling our children in the Christian Science Sunday School and of having my husband attend the church with me.
One of my first healings was that of arthritis in an advanced stage. There had been many times that my husband had to carry me into the house after a ride when I was unable to walk. I was unable to care for our children and home properly. The first lines of the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, given in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, meant much to me. They read (p. 16):
"Our Father which art in heaven,
Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Adorable One."
Truths of this kind which I heard in the Christian Science services lifted a feeling of worry from me. The condition was completely healed solely by my attending the services and before I learned the importance of studying daily the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Quarterly. I became aware of the healing that had taken place when I realized I was able to change from a utilitarian type of shoe to a higher heeled style. Now I am able to do all my housework and fulfill all the demands of our home. This healing occurred about eleven years ago.
We have also had healings of headache, insomnia, fever, and fear. We had the help of a Christian Science practitioner for these problems.
Learning to drive a car brought me a freer, happier, and more useful life. A relative expressed the belief that I would never be able to learn to drive because of my age and nervousness; but through the application of Christian Science and the help of a practitioner, I acquired all the courage I needed. The practitioner taught me that Mind is the intelligence of all activity and encouraged me to "go in Spirit."
I deem it a wonderful privilege to be a member of The Mother Church and to serve on committees in a branch church. I am very grateful that, through the writings of Mrs. Eddy and through the Church she established, I am learning obedience to God and gaining a better understanding of the teachings of Christ Jesus.
