Statements That Heal

Healing occurs in Christian Science when an individual's thought changes from material belief to spiritual reality. One's thought does not become totally spiritual as the result of a healing, but each change in thought in the direction of Spirit is a significant step toward the final demonstration in which matter totally disappears from consciousness.

Many of the changes of thought which bring healing occur as the result of statements read or heard or pondered. The statement, "God is Love," for example, has caused many an individual whose sickness has been induced by a belief that he is not loved to feel the ever-present love of God and to be healed.

What Mrs. Eddy calls "the scientific statement of being" points directly to the unreality of matter and the allness of Spirit. Prayerful contemplation of this statement has enabled many to stop believing the evidence of material sense and to free themselves from diseases imposed upon them by false evidence. The statement begins (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error."
