It is with deep gratitude and love for God that I wish to relate a healing I had through Christian Science which caused me to turn to the earnest study of this wonderful religion. Because I had known only Christian Science in the home as a child, the seed was planted, but it seemed to lie dormant for a number of years after I was first married. I let myself be led to follow beliefs of materia medica until I had spent some time in a tuberculosis sanatorium and was taking continued treatment after returning home.

Finally, during a routine X-ray examination, three doctors of the chest clinic in a very large hospital informed me that a certain condition was present and that an operation for the removal of either seven or eight ribs or possibly my whole lung would have to be performed in order to eliminate the disorder.

This news upset me greatly. I did not want to go back to a hospital, leave my family, or submit to an operation, but they set the surgery date and requested me to come back in one week for further X rays. My mother was visiting us at the time and said only one thing, that I pondered over and over. She said, "I don't like to see you have an operation, dear, when you don't have to."

As I thought of this I knew it to be true and that I had a choice. I went to a Christian Science practitioner and was put to work studying the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon and references from the Bible and the writings of our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. During the next few days I read every available moment and visited a local Christian Science Reading Room as often as I could.

One morning on the way to the practitioner's office I spent some time studying in the Reading Room. I remember reading from "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy, and the basic facts were illuminating to me that God good, made all that was made and that it was good, that man, made in His image and likeness, is perfect in Love. Also, I read an article from the current issue of The Christian Science Journal which was especially revealing.

Afterward, while on the bus, I pondered all these beautiful truths I had just read, and suddenly the angel message came, "Why, you can't be with God if you aren't with health, and I am with God; then I am with health!"' Immediately I felt the condition in my chest drain away, and I knew instantly I was healed. And so I was. When I went back to the hospital at the end of that week and they took X rays, the physician looked at the plates with disbelief and stated: "You've pulled a funny one on me. There's nothing here to operate on."

He consulted with two other doctors and the head of the county chest clinic, and they all agreed with his diagnosis and released me. This was over twelve years ago, and I have since led a very active life and am deeply grateful for the health, joy, and protection our family experiences each day.

For the teachings of Christ Jesus, the devoted work and support of our practitioners, all the periodicals, the Bible, and writings of Mrs. Eddy, I am humbly grateful. Also, I am thankful that my parents loyally saw to it that the seed of Truth was planted early not only in my consciousness but in the consciousness of my sisters; in each case the dormant seed eventually sprang up, and each one of us now lovingly works each day to demonstrate the glorious truth of Christian Science.
