Mere words are inadequate to...
Mere words are inadequate to express my gratitude for our Exemplar, Christ Jesus, and for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who gave to all mankind this beautiful religion, Christian Science. It is practical and demonstrable and can be used every minute of the day.
Being brought up in Christian Science from the age of two, I have had very few physical ailments. Whatever so-called children's ills came up were very soon healed, because in Christian Science we are taught to reach out for the understanding of the ever-availability of good—God's goodness surrounding us always.
In recent years and through relying solely on Christian Science, I have been able to build up two businesses when to human sense to do so would have seemed to be completely impossible.
The first business was commenced with very little capital indeed; the supply came when it was needed; and all along I knew that all good was unfolding to the glory of God . Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." To me, at that time, the human need was for a greater understanding of God, because God gives us the spiritual ideas on which to build. This first business was instrumental in giving many people pleasant accommodation and providing the family with a lovely home.
After this business was fully established, I had a great desire to move to another city. I had been trying to sell a small investment property for three years prior to this, but the agents assured me it would not sell, because it did not show any profit. However, I knew without a doubt that God was directing me, and I went ahead to find suitable premises.
Within a short time the agents telephoned to say that the investment property was sold, and the very same morning I received a letter from the agents in the other city telling me there was a large house available and suitable for the purpose for which I required it. This proved to be the case, and conversions were commenced as soon as it was possible, again providing homes for many.
The first business had to be left absolutely intact, and the second house had to be fully furnished and equipped, again with very little material capital, but with the realization that God, the divine Principle, provides only good for all. Throughout this experience I knew that the unfoldment of all this good was the manifestation of man's God-given dominion. My gratitude to God for this, and for all other good that has come about, is unbounded.
Three years ago I had a very great desire to visit The Mother Church, and two years ago the opportunity came in a most wonderful and unexpected way. Not only was I able to visit The Mother Church but also to stay at the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association on Pacific Coast and to visit a Christian Science House in Canada.
Although I traveled over eighteen thousand miles by plane, ship, bus, train, and car, there was only harmony all the way; and although I was alone during; the greater part of the journey, I did not at any time feel lonely. Previously I had a very great dread of being alone, but I knew the divine presence was always with me. It did not matter where I was; God was there too. I shall never cease to be grateful for this wonderful experience.
I am very grateful for the whole Christian Science movement, for membership in both The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction, and especially for our practitioners, who so lovingly and unselfishly help us on our way from sense to Soul. I cannot express enough gratitude for the privilege of being able to help in a branch church; it is complete joy to do God's work; and I pray that I may be worthy of the sacred name "Christian Scientist."—(Mrs.) Violet C. E. Gaynor, Plymouth, Devonshire, England.
