In the past two years I have had...
In the past two years I have had three experiences which were outstanding to me as proofs of the healing efficacy of the truths of Christian Science.
Upon the passing of a dear close relative the understanding of the spirituality of man removed any mortal concept of separation. The statement of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p vii), was certainly true for me, for I was blessed by knowing that regardless of material evidence man is spiritual.
At a later time in the year I began to suffer from diarrhea and to experience loss of weight. I prayed as I had been taught from childhood, but after the second month I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me. Through my own work and that of the practitioner, I was able to allay my fear and to renew my study of the perfect man as I knew him in Christian Science.
I came upon an article in a Sentinel based upon the words of Christ Jesus (Mark 3:27), "No man can enter into a strong mans house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man."
This clearly showed me that if I were to destroy this mortal belief, based upon a belief in a mortal man, I must first remove the belief of the reality of a mortal man. My thinking was awakened and I was healed immediately. I here has been no more evidence of the condition from that day to this, and I experienced a rapid regaining of weight without any extraordinary diet.
Shortly after this experience and wonderful growth in spiritual understanding, I was called into the office of my employer of twelve years and informed that I must agree to take a complete physical examination and guarantee to do whatever the physician required, or I would be dismissed immediately. I consented and called a practitioner to help me to handle the situation.
I had fear to handle, particularly in regard to the X-ray examination, but I knew that the measurement of the man of God's creating is not done through an examination of the physical body. I also overcame all fear of losing the prestige which I had gained in the business world. Needless to say, after being thoroughly examined by the physician, I was told that all was well. There were no medical requirements.
I returned to work, and I removed immediately any feeling of animosity or resentment toward my superior. Since this time our relationship has been kindlier, and I have been given many opportunities to prove my worth in the business world.
These three experiences truly show that Christian Science is the way of Life. Its scientific solving of daily problems is certainly what Christ Jesus was demonstrating in his time; and I am grateful that Mrs. Eddy was guided to establish the Church of Christ, Scientist. It will take all of eternity to know all of God, but we have eternity in which to do this.
I feel deep gratitude for the Christian Science Sunday School, the textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy's other writings, class instruction and our association meetings, our daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly publications, and the opportunities to demonstrate the excellence of God's man through branch church activity.—John R. Cox, Tyler, Texas.
