In II Corinthians we read (9: 15),...
In II Corinthians we read (9: 15), "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift," and I wish to express my gratitude to God for all the blessings I have received through taking up the study of Christian Science. My parents became interested in this religion when I was a little girl, and it was my privilege to attend Sunday School from early childhood. During that time I had many proofs of God's care and protection. On one occasion, while playing in the garden with some other children, I ran forward and struck my face with great force against a rocky wall. My cries brought my mother outside, and immediately these words from "the scientific statement of being" were repeated (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."'
My mother bathed my face and quietly we repeated the words of Mrs. Eddy's poem "The Mother's Evening Prayer." The first verse reads (Poems, p. 4):
O gentle presence, peace and joy and
power:
O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,
Thou Love that guards the nestling's
faltering flight!
Keep Thou my child on upward wing
tonight.
Because there were cuts and abrasions, we rang a practitioner, and Christian Science help was given. The swelling went down very quickly, the cuts healed within a few days, and there was no disfigurement. During the days the healing was taking place, I played happily and contentedly, knowing the healing power of God was operating.
I am also grateful for a more recent proof of healing through Christian Science when a strong detergent burned into my finger. The condition was painful, and there was much discomfort, although I was able to continue with my household duties and daily work at the office.
This painful condition did not appear to be healing, and one evening, while my husband and I were shopping, a chemist saw the finger and stated that if a certain ointment were not applied immediately, the finger would be a ease for a specialist. This awakened me to do more earnest prayerful study, because I realized that although I had been trusting God, perhaps I had not done enough specific work.
My husband and I knew that "with God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:2), and we prayed very humbly to our loving Father-Mother God to remove from the consciousness of each of us all thoughts of imperfection. During two weeks of specific study I became less and less conscious of the finger, and after another two weeks I suddenly realized that the whole condition had cleared and that my finger was normal.
This was a wonderful proof that when our trust in God, the great Physician, is backed up Inactive prayer. He sustains and heals us always.
I am grateful for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for our dear Leader. It was her life of consecration to God that enabled her to discover Christian Science and present it to the world to help and bless all mankind. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction, which has revealed to my consciousness the light of Truth. I am very grateful for Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Joan D. Hadoulas, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
