Through an understanding of God I have been healed of chronic constipation and many other ills as I studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and the other writings by Mary Baker Eddy. I have also had many healings with the help of practitioners. There is one healing that I should like to tell about in particular.

Several years ago I had a stomach condition which gave me a great deal of pain and trouble from time to time. During this period I was employed by the government, and my work involved long, hard work on fast-moving trains. At times I could eat only a little broth and crackers before making my run. I had help from practitioners and would get temporary relief, but the condition recurred. I know now it was my fear and lack of understanding of the truth of perfect God and perfect man that caused the recurrence.

The truth of Jesus' statement (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," was proven to me one night when I was on the road. I was nearing the end of my run to Omaha, Nebraska, and was seized with one of the most severe attacks I had experienced. When I reached my hotel room, I got the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings out of my suitcase and tried to work the problem out myself. Since this was around two o'clock in the morning, I hesitated to call a practitioner at that hour, but I could see no other way.

I selected a name of a practitioner from The Christian Science Journal, which I also carried with me. I apologized for calling him at that hour of the night. He answered very kindly and informed me that his work was to help anyone any time of day or night. I told him what the difficulty was. He simply said: "You go to bed and get your rest. I will take care of that."

I went to bed. Shortly the pain ceased. I slept soundly until late the next morning. I have never had a recurrence of the stomach trouble and have been able to eat any kind of food. Mrs. Eddy says on page 495 of Science and Health, "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God." This was certainly proven to me that night.

I am grateful for all the healings I have had in Science; but I am more grateful for having gained more and more spiritual understanding. It has not been necessary for me to call a practitioner for several years. I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy's revelation of Christian Science. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church, for class instruction, and for membership in a newly organized Christian Science Society.—Elmer Wilson Engle, Sun City, Arizona.
