As a granddaughter of those...

As a granddaughter of those who, when they found the pearl of great price, agreed to live in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science and a daughter of those who continued steadfastly in the truth, I am constantly thankful for the first lessons of the Christian Science Sunday School and our home.

I rejoice in the many opportunities that have come to me through school to the completion of a master's degree, as a teacher, and now as a wife to prove God's love for man and to learn more of God as Mrs. Eddy defines Him. She writes (Science and Health, p. 465), "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love."

The ever-availability of God's healing power was very forcefully brought home to me one morning when I awoke in pain and partial paralysis. I cried out for help, and my parents, after words of assurance, called my grandmother to do prayerful work for me. In a short time I was able to "rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good," as our Leader directs us to do on page 393 of Science and Health. I was in my place at work on time and soon was free of the condition.

For healings of burns, chicken pox, and other discomforts, for the prevention of disease and protection from accidents, for the unfolding of more of "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), for the priceless privilege of class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, I am increasingly grateful. My prayer is that I may show forth in my daily life my increasing appreciation of Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. —(Mrs.) La Von Merkel, Indianapolis, Indiana.
