Harvest of good
Through Christian Science, seekers of the truth are finding, in ever-increasing numbers, a satisfying way of life.
In answer to the question, "How would you define Christian Science?" Mrs. Eddy defines it thus: "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1).
This law of God, understood, has had a healing, leavening influence on human thought. Referring to some of its fruits, Mrs. Eddy writes, "If such are the present fruits, what will the harvest be, when this Science is more generally understood?" (Science and Health, pp. 348, 349.)
Every Reading Room librarian is acquainted with the Soul-satisfying fruits of the Spirit. Each one who serves in a Christian Science Reading Room has had occasion through his study of this Science to reap the benefits of this law of God applied to human experience. Are they not expressed by the librarian in an attitude of confidence, conviction, and dominion? Are they not reflected in a smile of welcome to those who enter the Reading Room, in a desire to share the treasures of Truth available in the books waiting for acceptance by the visitor, and in spiritual alertness to offer the right thing at the right time, whether it be an encouraging statement or a book or a pamphlet?
A librarian in California writes: "A man who seemed to be in great need made several visits to the Reading Room, where he was lovingly welcomed and shown how to study the Lesson-Sermon. He sought the help of a practitioner, and later returned to the Reading Room to voice his appreciation for the kindness and encouragement which had been expressed to him. He joyfully reported that employment had been obtained and that all suggestions of discouragement, unhappiness, and even self-destruction had been completely dispelled through the study and application of Christian Science."
