About thirty years ago, as an adult, I seriously applied myself to the study of Christian Science. one of the early healings for which I can never be grateful enough was that of frequent violent headaches, which had caused me untold suffering since childhood.

Another healing was that of blood poisoning in a finger. One evening, after a prolonged period of intense pain, I called the practitioner, who was endeavoring to help me discern the unreality of the condition. She advised me to study this passage on page 376 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "The pallid invalid, whom you declare to be wasting away with consumption of the blood, should be told that blood never gave life and can never take it away,—that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act, than in all the blood which everflowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life."

I reasoned that there are over two billion people in the world. Then I must infer that there is more life in one good motive and act than in all the blood which flows through the veins of these people. This line of thinking brought me to the logical conclusion that it did not matter whether blood calls itself poisoned or excellent, it can never give life nor take it away.

At midnight, after a scanty sleep, I was awakened with a feeling of relief. It was as though an incision had been made; the finger was draining. In a few weeks a new nail formed, and the healing was complete.

Still another healing was that of deafness in one ear. Mrs. Eddy says that ears are "not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding" (ibid., p. 585). She also writes (ibid., p. 213): "The ear does not really hear. Divine Science reveals sound as communicated through the senses of Soul—through spiritual understanding."

Again I reasoned that if I believed hearing comes from the ears or corporeal senses, I could also believe it came from my fingertips. This caused me to realize how ludicrous was such a belief. Then came a clear conviction that hearing is everywhere present because God is present everywhere. Whenever the suggestion came that I could not hear in this ear, I made strong declarations of truth. This was continued for several months until the complete healing came.

For these and wonderful healings too numerous to mention here, I offer my daily thanks to God, the Giver of all good. I am inexpressibly grateful for Mrs. Eddy's revelation of Truth which she so unselfishly shared with the world and which she named Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Lillian G. Epstein, St. Louis, Missouri.
