The testimonies of healing are...
The testimonies of healing are the first items I read when my periodicals arrive, I always receive so much inspiration from them that I am impelled to send an expression of my own praise and gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. The second verse of Psalm 40 describes my experience exactly, "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." While reading the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of smoking and social drinking, and I stopped using drugs.
More recently I have been healed of an alarming physical condition. One evening I experienced a painful sensation in my abdomen. I got up, went to my room, and started to declare God's presence and power. When the pain became more intense and it was almost impossible for me to think, I asked my husband to call a friend who is a practitioner. When she was on the line I was able to speak to her. I did not say what was wrong, but I asked her to please talk to me of God and of Christ.
She immediately sensed the error and told me that I was actually inseparable from God, Life, and that nothing could touch my true, spiritual selfhood. All through the period of pain, when I could not hear her, she kept right on talking; and when I again heard her voice, she was declaring my indestructible being as God's child. Then the pain subsided. This took about twenty minutes. Although I had the feeling I was going to pass on, I held to the thought that I lived only in God; and I realized that there was no place outside His infinitude for me to go. It was due to the absolute convictions of the practitioner that the condition yielded.
About two months later this experience reappeared with more intensity. I again went to my room declaring (Ps. 118:17), "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." My husband became alarmed and called a friend downstairs whom I had introduced to Christian Science about a year and a half earlier. She came tip and started to support me with love and strong protests of Truth. How grateful I am for her work!
When this, occurred I was pondering a statement of Mrs. Eddy's which reads as follows (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 277): "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." The thought came: "Now you must prove this."
My husband called the practitioner who had helped me on the first occasion, and she talked to me in the same loving and confident way, declaring my indestructibility as a spiritual idea of God. Again the pain faded out under the blaze of Truth which was present. I am very grateful for the confidence and work of this practitioner and for her absolute trust in the power of Christian Science to heal, which, with my own conviction of its healing power, enabled us to demonstrate "that God, good, is supreme." The healing has been permanent.
I thank all the workers in our movement for their courage and devotion to the truth as given to us by our Leader. I feel that I can never repay all that has been done for me through our periodicals, and I thank those who contribute to them for their devotion to our Leader. The most wonderful thing in my experience has been class instruction. That I may serve lovingly in my branch church is my daily concern. I cannot help but love the Cause that has given me, or, rather, restored, my spiritual sense. Thanks to God and to Mrs. Eddy for giving us The Mother Church with branch churches in which we may serve.—(Mrs.) Mildred Luongo, Ridgewood, New York.
