Since my testimony appeared in...

Since my testimony appeared in the Sentinel some years ago, my family and I have received further healings. I cherish the healings of character even more than the physical ones. It has been such a comfort to be able to work out all my problems with the knowledge that Christian Science is a demonstrable religion and is indeed the Comforter promised by our Master, Christ Jesus.

Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 12), "In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as 'a very present help in trouble.'" This truth was proved to me when I was traveling in the United States with my daughter some years ago. We had been staying with a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner, and when we left her home we had planned to stop off in Washington for a day's sight-seeing on our way back to New York, where we were to join the boat to return home.

We had been on the train for only about an hour when my daughter complained of feeling very ill. She had a severe throat infection, and as the journey continued she became more distressed until I was quite panic-stricken. I began to wonder what we should do if my daughter became too ill to sail, and we had to stay in New York without sufficient dollars to see us through. I wondered if a telegram asking for Christian Science treatment could be sent off to the friend whom we had just left.

Then, quite suddenly, I thought to myself: "Well! I am supposed to be a student of Christian Science; so what am I doing thinking in this way?" And I just turned to God and said, "Please, Father, will You give me the right thought that will heal this situation?" And almost immediately came the words from the textbook, "Father-Mother God. all-harmonious." I thought: "There! that is all there is to it. Everything is harmonious!" And so it proved, for in a very few minutes my daughter sat up and said that she was ready for lunch. That was the end of the illness, and we continued our trip with great joy.

The healing message which had come to me is part of Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer. The opening lines of the prayer and its interpretation read (p. 16):

"Our Father which art in heaven.
Our Father-Mother God,
all-harmonious.

Hallowed be Thy name.
Adorable One."

One day I was seized with a severe pain in the abdomen which made it difficult for me to sit down or to rest in bed. I was fearful; but with the help of a Christian Science practitioner and because of our knowing together the unreality of pain, the fear was overcome, and the pain disappeared in a few days.

For these experiences and for all the help that I have received through the teachings of Christian Science, I am humbly grateful.— (Mrs.) Doris M. Holton, London, England.
