Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health...
Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 79), "Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us." Love-inspired giving is, of course, one of the keys to greater blessings and understanding in Christian Science, and it is with joy that I give this testimony.
I am grateful indeed for a wonderfully happy home, for marriage to a fine Christian Scientist, and for our family of nine fine young Scientists. I am grateful for many healings. Lack has been overcome. So-called childhood diseases, injuries resulting from accidents, and eye trouble have been healed. School problems and relationship difficulties have been worked out. The use of alcohol and tobacco has been given up. An inferiority complex, causing extreme fear of speaking in public, even to two or three individuals, has been eliminated. And the many little problems that arise daily in a large family are always solved through the application of Science.
On two occasions when I was in the Armed Forces my realization of the truth stood me in good stead. I had an instantaneous healing on the steps of a dispensary of a six weeks' spell of illness which had begun as a cold but had developed into something quite severe. I was hanging on, resisting medical treatment, but this day on K.P. I felt I could carry on no longer. I asked if I might go to the barracks to study for a few minutes. The answer was that I must work or go on sick call.
In order to have the opportunity to call one of the Christian Science Wartime Workers, who served during the Second World War, I left for sick call. The Worker was out; so I went to the dispensary, unwillingly. On the steps my faith in and small understanding of God and my determination to place absolute reliance on Him brought the healing. Probably in record time, I was back at my spot on the chow line, serving. I believe, lima beans, completely free!
A year or two later in Hawaii I was suffering from hemorrhoids. The condition worsened after about two days. One day we had a practice parade for a visiting general. After the practice I asked to be relieved from the parade, but I was told that I must either be in it or in the hospital the following day.
That evening I turned to God in prayer and studied the Bible together with Science and Health. The next day I was in the parade, free and well.
I am filled with love and gratitude for the benevolence of God, for Christ Jesus, and for Mrs. Eddy, who gave Christian Science to mankind. For the increasing sense of goodness and usefulness which comes to us through its study and through church work, I am grateful too.
For a trip to the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, for the joy and serenity of working in the Christian Science Publishing House for a short time, for the opportunity to attend services in The Mother Church for two months with the whole family, and for the privilege of class instruction, I say. "Thank You, God."—G. Thomas Ammon, Klamath Falls, Oregon.
