For the spiritual import of the...
For the spiritual import of the Word, the power and the glory of the Scriptures, revealed to human understanding in Christian Science, I wish to express my sincere gratitude.
Through my husband's interest in Science, I was invited to attend the Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings in a Church of Christ, Scientist. As a result of this attendance, the study of the Bible Lessons, given in the Quarterly, and a receptivity to Truth, I realized that my questions relating to God, man, and the universe had been answered in a form that I could accept and understand.
I was aroused to a new way of thinking and reasoning. I became assured of the ever-presence and all-power of God and knew that I could turn to Him in every need. I had proof of this in a very short time.
I was in the garden, where some boards had been left, and in turning around, I stepped on a rusty nail. My first thought was "Christian Science." I telephoned to my husband and told him what had happened. He asked me if I wanted to rely on Science, and I answered, "What else is there?" I then called a practitioner. At first, I felt a little concern. So assuring were the practitioner's words of Truth, however, that fear was overcome in an instant.
I do not now recall any particular quotation from our textbook or any specific statement that the practitioner gave me. But I listened to his remarks and knew that because I had turned unreservedly to God, I could rest in His care. I clung to the unity of God and man, divine Principle and idea, as an ever-operative truth, keeping man eternally free from discord, and my need was quickly and completely met. I was free and continued my work in the garden.
During the Wednesday evening testimony meetings in Christian Science churches, healings are related and also received. Recently, through the healing truth that God is Love, expressed at such a meeting, I was instantaneously healed of a throat irritation which had been very uncomfortable. As a result of this experience, I realized that the need for correcting thought and maintaining it at a high spiritual level is of the greatest importance at all times. Our Leader counsels (Science and Health, p. 248), "We must form perfect models in thought and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives."
For Mrs. Eddy, who embodied and exemplified spiritual qualities of thought which enabled her to receive the revelation of divine Science and whose love so enfolded all mankind that we today have Christian Science, I am sincerely grateful. Through class instruction and our annual association meeting, many blessings have come to me and are ever unfolding.—(Mrs.) Mildred E. Deck, Santa Monica, California.
