I wish to express my gratitude...

I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings that Christian Science has brought into my life.

The first healing which I experienced was that of intense pain in my eyes, accompanied by a severe and prolonged headache, which occurred whenever I read or studied. This trouble, which had begun in my early teens, had grown steadily more severe. I had been having help from the best eye specialist my parents could find and was wearing glasses to correct the difficulty.

While I was attending boarding school, preparing for college, the difficulty became so acute that I was forced to return home. I was taken to the specialist. He told my parents that the glasses I was wearing were the strongest he could prescribe and that he could do nothing more for me. He added that in order to avoid the suffering, I should remain in a darkened room as much as possible.

Earnestness about college preparation made me unwilling to accept this verdict. I returned to school, dropping two subjects. But two of my friends read my assignments to me; so I was able to pass two other subjects.

One of these friends was a Christian Scientist. I had not discussed religion with her because I had been brought up in a deeply religious home and had felt satisfied. But when I saw my prospects for progress in education being curtailed, I asked her if she thought Christian Science could help me. She replied that it could heal the condition and invited me to visit her at the end of the school term.

This I did. My friend arranged an interview with a Christian Science practitioner, for which I shall always be grateful. The practitioner advised me to get a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and begin to read it. As reading was the one thing I felt I could not do, it was proposed that I read just a few lines a day, and I did this.

Within two weeks, with help from the practitioner, I was able to remove the glasses and to read more each day. I entered college in the fall and was able to take up the full course of study. When I finished my college work, I entered the teaching profession, in which I am still engaged.

This healing has meant a great deal to me, for it literally brought me out of darkness into a full and active life. I am grateful to the friend and to the practitioner who stood by me during this experience and for many other healings. I am grateful for our dear Leader, who gave us this wonderful truth which reveals God's nearness and dearness, for membership in The Mother Church, and for class insruction. I am also deeply grateful for membership in a branch church and for the opportunities it affords for growth and for sharing this unfolding revelation of good with others. —(Miss) Esther Clark, Louisville, Kentucky.
