The study of Christian Science...

The study of Christian Science has brought many blessings to me, one of which is a love for the King James Version of the Bible. At one time I avoided certain Bible passages because they seemed too profound or contradictory. I now enjoy seeking the meaning of such passages and have been successful because of what I have learned in the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

Religion is now the most practical and intelligent aid I have in living my daily life. When confused by trouble or sickness, I know I have a quick solution or healing available in my understanding of God and man as revealed through Christian Science.

Of great importance to me is the knowledge that the Christ is God's power and nature made manifest to mankind. I have benefited from an understanding of this in my human experience. I awoke one morning with a paralyzing pain in my back and called to my husband for prayerful assistance. He repeated "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health; this reversed the belief that man is a mortal, and hence subject to pain. One sentence of the statement reads, "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness." My husband declared that man can only know and experience what is Godlike.

A Christian Science practitioner was called to support us through prayer, and her statements of truth were readily and gratefully received. As I became conscious of the presence of Love, I was released somewhat from the pain. In trying to move, I felt something inside me break, but I was free from fear because I knew that the love which was being expressed to me humanly was proof of the omnipresence of Love and that in Love there is nothing to fear.

I remained bedridden throughout the day and night; but I did not doubt that the effect of our application of Christian Science was like the daylight's pushing back the darkness. In the morning when I was talking on the telephone to the practitioner, she asked me to remember that the Christ comes to heal right where we are and when it is needed. This thought was not new to me, but I thanked her for it. Then I thought about her statement, and perceived its meaning.

I realized that Jesus understood the Christ and healed by its application and that he did not put any obstacles in the way of immediate healing. He did not, for example, wait for the ailing ones to suffer a little longer. He healed from the basis of deep spiritual understanding and love. Then I saw that since I had been in an atmosphere of love and clear scientific thinking for the past day and a half, I had the right to accept my healing. I arose, and within half an hour I was at a Sunday morning church service.

Though I had never sustained such physical pain as I did through that experience, I am grateful for the keen sense of the presence of divine Love that I have felt ever since then. The ailment was never true, for if it had been true, it could not have been destroyed. I am grateful not only for sickness overcome, but also for the ever-presence of the loving Christ, Truth, which makes the existence of error impossible.— (Mrs.) Barbara L. Keaton, Birmingham, Michigan.

I am certainly grateful to be able to confirm the facts related in my wife's testimony. The experience was a definite opportunity for us to progress in our understanding of Christian Science.

That my wife and I gained a greater love for and understanding of God as a result of this demonstration of His power has been proved in many instances since that time, for we have been able to work immediately from the standpoint of perfect God and perfect man, encouraged by the lessons learned at the time of her healing. —Charles E. Keaton, Jr.
