It is many years since I received a healing which I am convinced came in no way other than by the reading of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I shall be very grateful indeed if this testimony is of encouragement to other people who may be suffering as I suffered.

In 1933, after I had had cold after cold, it was found by my doctors that I was suffering from tuberculosis. At that time my wife was in a maternity home where our son had just been born, and we had a daughter who was three years old.

It was considered necessary for me to leave my wife and family and move into a drier climate, into the mountains, where I received wonderful attention and care from doctors who did all the possibly could to help me to recover. I moved to many places, but I did not get better and so I returned home.

I began to read Science and Health then, but only with a view to being able to understand a person or Deity called God, whom, it appeared, I was shortly due to meet, for I had been told it was impossible for me to live much longer. However, my wife and I and others near me noticed that after I had finished reading the book for the first time I was very much better.

But I went to another sanatorium, for I was very loath to give up the medical help which had been so kindly given to me. Yet when I returned home the trouble started all over again. By then, however, I had got some little grasp of the teachings of Christian Science; so I began a regular study of the Bible in conjunction with the textbook. Immediately I improved and was able to proceed on the business trips which it was necessary for me to undertake in those days. The improvement continued until my health was completely restored.

I have been medically examined on many occasions since then, either for life insurance purposes or because of Army regulations, and on one occasion I was told there were signs that I had once had tuberculosis.

Since 1933 Christian Science has played a very important part in my home life and my business, and my wife and I are enormously grateful for the help we have had from its teachings.—John Inglis Oddy, Port Elizabeth, Cape Province, South Africa.
