It is now over forty years since...
It is now over forty years since my husband and I began to study Christian Science. We have reared a family of six boys with complete reliance on God as our only physician, as we understand Him to be in Science.
I should like to relate our first healing in Christian Science; this took place when we still knew little or nothing about its teachings. Our baby, who was less than a year old and who had been healthy, developed asthma. For months the child did not sleep unless we walked the floor with him. The doctors said there was no relief or cure for him, although if he lived to be five years old there might then be a possibility of relief. They implied he would not live that long.
My sister, who after years of suffering from cancer had been given only a short time to live, had just started having Christian Science treatment from a practitioner. She was improving and later was cured.
One day, when our son was very ill and it seemed that each breath would be his last, I telephoned this practitioner and asked for help. The healing was instantaneous. From that moment until now, there has never been any return of the trouble.
During his school years he was active in sports, becoming captain of the football team. He had to undergo many routine medical examinations, and after one of these he said to me, "Mother, I am the only one on the team to whom the doctor did not give a slip of paper calling for a consultation with the family physician because of some ailment."
We are most grateful for Christian Science and all its activities. It is indeed the Comforter. My greatest desire is for more understanding of God that I may live so as to be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."—(Mrs.) Mary Julia Baker, Vero Beach, Florida.
