My first testimony, the healing...

My first testimony, the healing of a heart difficulty, appeared in the Sentinel of December 26, 1931. This healing came by my constantly living in the consciousness of love and gratitude, pouring out love to others, and expressing gratitude to God for all blessings, great and small.

I have had healings of an injured back, influenza, severe pains in my head, and minor illnesses. The healing of severe headache was accomplished with the help of two different practitioners, and there has been no return of the trouble.

I should like to share an experience which proved to me the eternal mercy of God. It took place after an hour of sight-seeing in a foreign city with a week-end crowd of about two thousand. I suddenly became aware of the fact that I no longer had my handbag containing money, traveler's checks, and my passport.

I was gripped by fear. I reached out to God in the most primitive and childlike way, saying, "God have mercy on me!" Instantly the angel thought came (Ps. 116:5): "God is merciful." No other thought came; so I clung to this, saying it over and over again. Then came the thought (Message to The Mother Church for 1901 by Mrs. Eddy. p. 1): "And rest assured you can never lack God's outstretched arm so long as you are in His service."

I was led to inquire at the office in the palace we had visited and found that the bag had been turned in intact. Later my non-Scientist friends said, "That is a miracle if I ever saw one!"

I treasure this experience, for it has taught me that no matter how momentarily unalert we may seem to be, no matter what seems to be happening, right there is God's loving presence.

I am deeply grateful for class instruction. I regard it as the most important event of my life. I am also grateful for the privilege of serving as First Reader in a Christian Science Society, and I daily pray to know that God is providing workers for His vineyard.—(Mrs.) Lydia Griffith Best, Terrell, Texas.
