Since childhood I have enjoyed...

Since childhood I have enjoyed the blessings of Christian Science. It has given me a happy, harmonious, and useful life. And I have had many healings.

A truly outstanding one occurred during my first year of teaching when I was healed of pneumonia, which had been followed by measles. At one time during this illness I lay in a coma for several hours, but was restored to consciousness by the steadfastness of my parents' trust in God and the faithful prayers of a Christian Science practitioner and teacher.

Soon after this healing I enjoyed the privilege of having class instruction. This has been invaluable to me in the intervening years. It has helped to solve the problems of everyday living. Other difficulties overcome have been those that arise in a classroom, that pertain to the finding of a right position and a right home, and that concern adjustments to changing conditions.

At one time I was working under trying circumstances with no apparent possibility of a change. For several weeks I faithfully declared and realized that the only work that man, God's idea, has to do is to reflect God, that this function actually belongs to each individual, and that it cannot be taken from him. I also remembered the saying of Jesus that "the labourer is worthy of his hire" (Luke 10:7). Then one morning I was notified that the following week I was to report to another position. This would mean doing work for which I was particularly trained and with an increase in salary. For many years I enjoyed this position until divine Love led me to higher fields of service.

A few years ago when I was living alone in a large apartment I was asked to share the apartment with a friend, who was the landlord's daughter. I was reluctant to do this because I felt I would be losing my home. Then I realized very clearly that man's true home is the consciousness of divine Love and that nothing can take this from him; that his home does not depend on a certain place, because divine Love is everywhere, and he is always at home with Love. This freed me from fear, so that I joyfully welcomed my friend, and we lived together very happily.

I am grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who gave us a practical understanding of God that can be used any time regardless of circumstances. I am grateful too for all the avenues through which this understanding is brought to the attention of all mankind.— (Miss) Julia Anna Dodge, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
