I had loved the Bible from my...
I had loved the Bible from my childhood; but because I did not understand it very well, I was always eager to learn more of God.
The light spoken of in the Bible verse (Ps. 36:9), "With thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light," came to me many years ago when, as the direct answer to prayer, I was guided to turn to Christian Science for help in an extremity. At that time I was in a very weak physical condition, suffering from a nervous disease which the doctors had declared incurable.
One day, while studying the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I found this statement on page 14: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,— neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints." Suddenly the light of understanding that God is man's Life and that therefore man's being must be spiritual and perfect so flooded my consciousness that I was instantaneously and permanently healed.
Through faithfully applying the truths of Christian Science I have experienced many rich blessings since that time.
One evening while crossing a road I was knocked down by an oncoming car whose speed I had misjudged because of its small light. Although the shock was great, I did not lose consciousness and declared with all my strength, "God is my Life, and God is here."
The driver of the car was very fearful, but I assured him he need not be afraid and asked him to take me home. On arrival there I thanked God for the protection I had experienced and telephoned a friend, who was a Christian Scientist, for spiritual support. I held my thoughts steadfastly to the perfection of God and of His idea, man, which perfection cannot be marred by an accident. The next morning I got up as usual and went through my daily activities. Although I noticed evidence of an injury in my mouth, I vigorously denied the reality of this material evidence and held to the fact that as a child of God man is composed of spiritual ideas and is always intact because he is governed by divine Principle and maintained and sustained by the law of Mind, which is perfect, harmonious, and eternal. After three days the evidence disappeared completely. One leg had been injured, but after a week there was no sign of the difficulty.
I am very grateful to God for His wonderful love in giving us Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and in giving us Christian Science through the pure and consecrated thought of our Leader. Also I wish to express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church, for class instruction, and for being able to serve a branch church in different offices for many years. Truly I dedicate myself completely to God. How can I do otherwise since He is All-in-all to me!—(Mrs.) Jane O'Donnell, Geneva, Switzerland.
