Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 162), "Christian Science heals organic disease as surely as it heals what is called functional." This has been proved true in my case.

Christian Science was presented to my parents about thirty years ago at a time of extreme need, for I had been bedridden for nearly a year in a large city hospital, suffering from what was described as an incurable disease. I had undergone two major surgical operations, both of which were unsuccessful, each leaving me in a worse state. I was in great pain, was partially paralyzed, my speech was affected, and I was becoming blind. Hardly any of the bodily organs functioned properly.

The specialists advised my parents to put me in a home for incurables. Instead of following the doctor's advice, my parents took me home. Christian Science treatment was commenced, and drugs were discarded. About three weeks later the doctor, who attended daily although he did nothing for me, was so amazed at my improvement that he said he would not come again unless called, and that was his last visit.

The pain ceased entirely. Gradually I could see, read, and talk clearly, and finally I could walk. When later I sought employment as a teacher, I needed a certificate from the same doctor. He said I could not possibly take up teaching again as my memory was impaired; but this pronouncement too was proved wrong, and I was senior mistress for more than ten years. During these years of teaching, my colleagues could not understand why I was the only member of the staff who was not absent because of illness.

For the last twenty years I have been a member of The Mother Church as well as of a branch church, in which I have served in nearly every capacity, including that of a Reader. In conclusion I wish to express my profound gratitude to the practitioner who so patiently and lovingly helped me, thus enabling me to lead such an active, useful life.—(Mrs.) Irene B.
