FEED THEM
He
called them lambs and sheep.
The shepherd's love—how deep!
His last concern that they
Be nourished, that they reap
The harvest of their hope.
Though one, trembling, cried
Rejection; thrice denied
The thorn-crowned heritage,
Confession clarified
Foundation to be laid.
Such love for human friends—
Such understanding—lends
Warmth to the page we read.
And the warped heart rends
Its artificial bonds.
Can we who have been freed,
Can we hand out stale creed,
Theology's hard crust,
To those driven by need,
Famished for living bread?
