I love to look back to the days...

I love to look back to the days when I began the study of Christian Science, over thirty years ago, to the wonder I felt when I first realized its healing power and the desire was awakened in me to learn more of its truths. How awed I was at the power of God as material beliefs were discarded like useless garments!

For several years I had been suffering from a war disability and was adhering to certain diets and taking medicine. I was enabled to drop these practices and was healed of the inharmonious conditions through reading the textbook, Science and Health. Healings of smoking and of social drinking soon followed.

While I was on a long hike over rough, icy ground in subzero weather, my foot was severely frozen. Since I was at the time still on Navy disability compensation, it was necessary for me to report the condition to the Government doctors. They prescribed medicines and predicted the serious aftereffects, chilblains, from which I had previously been a frequent sufferer. However, I studied diligently the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings and used none of the medicines prescribed.

To the doctors' surprise, I suffered no pain after the first two hours; and in a few days, when they removed the toenails, they found a complete, fully grown set of nails. I have never again suffered from chilblains.

When I had to have the help of a Christian Science practitioner for the first time, reservations in a hospital had been made for me to have an operation for appendicitis. Though this particular difficulty was not mentioned to the practitioner, the condition immediately disappeared and has not returned.

Shortly after becoming a Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, a slight accident resulted in an injury in or near the sacrum, causing severe pain. However, by clinging steadfastly to the fact that man is not material but spiritual and by endeavoring every waking hour to realize what God is and what man's relation to Him as reflection is, not only was I able to be in my appointed place at every church service, but I was also able to carry on the duties of my regular profession. Throughout this experience a practitioner gave unstinted help, f do not know when, but sometime during that period the difficulty suddenly disappeared. There was no period of convalescence.

I am thankful for a seven months' period in which I spent several hours every day in a Christian Science Reading Room. This study resulted in great spiritual growth and readiness for class instruction, which followed soon afterward.

I am grateful to "the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (Eph. 1:3).—Harry Stewart Scholl, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
