Christian Science was first presented and proven to me in my early teens when I witnessed the healing of a member of the family of a severe nervous condition for which medical science could find no cure. Since that time, in spite of the struggles that seemed necessary to understand and demonstrate consistently the truth given to us by our revered Leader, I have never doubted that "with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27).

While yet in high school, I was healed of common colds, a bad sinus condition, headache, sprains, and other ailments. I have also experienced the prevention of accidents and disease.

When I left the farm on which I had lived to go to a large city college, the problem of supply was solved, but the lack of proper educational background for college work presented itself. The threat of flunking out of college forced me to rely upon the one and only source of intelligence, Mind, God.

There was a Christian Science Reading Room near the campus of the college I attended. After my first year of college, I began to go there regularly to study and gain a better understanding of the truth which I was now learning could solve my problems.

This study meant more than just casual perusal of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's books, and other authorized writings on the bookshelves. It meant a very deep desire, or prayer, to understand and demonstrate Christian Science better, and I found that this could be accomplished only by consecration and hard work. On page 326 of Science and Health we read, "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way."

In my case the way opened up in the form of less fear of failure and more happiness and success in my schoolwork. The healing did not come at once; but in proportion as I learned and then applied the truth of man's ability and intelligence as the perfect, spiritual child of God, I made progress.

In the textbook we read, "Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you" (ibid., p. 571). This spiritual fact was proved to me in different ways, especially by alleviating fear while I was serving in Korea with the Third Division during the years 1951 and 1952.

A day or two after I received my assignment in the division and before I yet knew just what my work would entail, a sense of fear and discouragement seemed to engulf me. I wandered away from the main group to be by myself and sat in a recently used foxhole to read the Bible Lesson for that week from the Christian Science Quarterly.

When I started back to the encampment, I was suddenly conscious of a piece of paper in the distance and felt strongly impelled to see what it was. With great surprise and gratitude I recognized that it was The Home Forum page of a fairly recent issue of The Christian Science Monitor. The religious article was on the subject of law.

The finding of this article and the periodic reading of it were the means of eliminating the fear and met my needs as a right understanding and application of law always does. This experience proved to me that every need can be met, sometimes in most unexpected ways, when we accept God's goodness and power as we are taught to do in Christian Science.

I am grateful for many proofs of the power of Truth as taught by Christian Science, for the direction freely available to us for daily living, whether in the home, in business, or in our associations with other people.
