For a long time my wife and I...

For a long time my wife and I had searched for a satisfying religion. Then one Wednesday evening we were led to visit The Mother Church. We were very much impressed by the service, and both of us agreed that the testimonies were given with true sincerity and love for Christian Science. Each person mentioned Mrs. Eddy and her book Science and Health in such a manner as to command respect for this textbook and its author.

After leaving the church that evening, I went to the Reading Room and purchased a copy of Science and Health.

At that time social drinking had quite a hold on me and I enjoyed a good cigar. That first night when I settled down at home to read the book, I had a cigar in one hand and a glass of wine within reach. I soon discovered that this was no ordinary book on metaphysics. It required a lot of study. I became absorbed in its style and its truths. It held my attention completely. When, hours later, I put the book down, I had not finished smoking the cigar, nor had I touched the wine; and I have had no desire for either since.

For some time I wondered why and how this healing came about. After much study, the thought came to me that actually I had been prepared for healing all along and had not realized it. For, as our Leader says in the textbook (p. 1): "Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."

I am very grateful to have found Christian Science, which teaches us that God knows our needs even before we ask Him, and to know that whatever is right for us will be granted if we seek the truth. Christian Science has taken care of all my needs, and I am deeply grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. —Frank P. Guevin, Boston, Massachusetts.

I witnessed the healing of my husband of drinking and smoking. Prior to his study of Christian Science, I had many times watched him try to break himself of the habits merely through human will, but he was never successful; yet, the truth which Mrs. Eddy revealed and which we both readily accepted fulfilled his earnest desire for freedom. For this and for many other healings, as well as for membership in The Mother Church, I am deeply grateful. —(Mrs.) Ethel L. Guevin.
