"The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p.1). From the moment I read this sentence, while still in my teens, I believed it and have never doubted this truth during the more than forty years I have studied Christian Science.

An outstanding demonstration of the efficacy of the healing power of Christian Science was the dissolving of what would probably have been diagnosed as an abdominal tumor which had grown so large as to be discernible through my clothing. For a long time I was unable to sleep on one side, and I suffered extreme pain most of the time. As I realized that such a condition was not of God, who is good and ever present, some of the unloving and fearful medical beliefs, as well as others which I was holding in consciousness, dissolved.

Through earnest and consistent study of the Bible Lesson, given in the Christian Science Quarterly, early in the morning before the other members of my family were awake, I grew to see the perfection of God's creation, wholly spiritual. I do not know exactly when the healing occurred, but one morning I found that I had been sleeping on the side where the growth had been and that it was entirely gone. That was over ten years ago.

Mrs. Eddy states (ibid., p. 162): "Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." There was a change of base in my human thinking, and with the change came a change in bodily conditions. Christ, Truth, did the healing.

Two daughters were reared in Christian Science, and now there are three granddaughters attending the Christian Science Sunday School.

Over the years there have been many proofs of God's healing power in overcoming various phases of error, physical and financial, and unpleasant dispositional traits have been corrected.

Class instruction and active church work have been a great blessing, and I feel heartfelt gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, who has enabled us to understand the mission of Christ Jesus and God's loving purpose for His creation.— (Mrs.) Adleath Peat, St. Louis, Missouri.
