When I was a young man and...

When I was a young man and experiencing illness such as liver trouble and constant colds, a neighbor lent my mother the Christian Science textbook. I started reading it and became so interested that I would read into the early morning hours. From this study, turned also to the Bible. Later I was introduced to a Christian Science practitioner, and as a result of her prayerful work I was healed of the liver trouble. The frequency of the colds decreased in the measure that my understanding of the power of God increased.

Since those early experiences, I have been healed of arthritis, bursitis, abscessed teeth, a streptococcic throat, and many other diseases. An attack which would probably have been diagnosed as a stroke was overcome in a few hours through my wife's prayer.

I should like to mention that we have been blessed by this religion in rearing our family, who have all had many wonderful healings.

I am very grateful to God for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy, who gave Christian Science to the world. I express gratitude to the practitioners who have helped us along the way. I am grateful to have had a part in branch church and Sunday School work. I am grateful for class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the opportunities that come to me daily for spiritual advancement.—Guy C. Johnson, Ritzville, Washington.

It is a privilege for me to verify my husband's testimony, and I want to express my joy and gratitude for having had the sustaining truth of Christian Science for many years. We have brought up a family of seven children, and they have been protected from so-called children's diseases and accidents. One daughter, when a baby, was healed of burns after she fell on a floor furnace. During the healing process, she was apparently entirely unaware of the burns.

At one time, because of vermin, we had occasion to fumigate with cyanide potassium a house into which we were moving. We felt we had taken due precaution in ventilating it afterward, as we had been instructed, but were not told that a fan would be necessary to ventilate the basement. I became poisoned, and it was also almost impossible, for me to breathe indoors.

I called a practitioner for help in Christian Science, and after I had left the telephone, I opened Science and Health. I read Mrs. Eddy's words, "Man, being immortal, has a perfect indestructible life" (p. 209), and I had an instantaneous healing.

I have also experienced painless childbirth, and more recently I had a healing in three days of a severe pain in my abdomen.

As a family our greatest blessing is our understanding of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Margaret I. Johnson.
