"Behold, I stand at the door, and...
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Rev. 3:20). By opening the door of my heart to Christian Science, I have seen fulfilled the promise in the above quotation from the Bible.
At a time when I was both physically and emotionally upset a dear friend presented Christian Science to me, and, through the prayerful work of this friend, I was healed overnight of an infected finger. At the time of this healing I was a practicing registered nurse; but I abandoned the medical field, threw the door of my thought wide open to the power of Truth, and began the study of Christian Science in earnest. I have found that this study transforms character.
Through the correct application of the rules of Christian Science, I have experienced harmonious childbirth without medication, healings of athlete's foot, difficult breathing, infected hemorrhoids, impacted wisdom teeth, severe mental depression, frustration, and feelings of inferiority.
The difficult breathing vanished when I sat down and began reading at random from Science and Health. The healings of depression, frustration, and inferiority came gradually, as my understanding of God and man made in His image and likeness increased.
Prior to the birth of our child I had the help of a Christian Science practitioner. At one required routine medical checkup, I was informed that the baby was in an abnormal position and that the delivery could be prolonged or complicated unless this condition changed.
The practitioner reminded me of this quotation from the Bible (Ezek. 21:27): "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him." A study of the chapter entitled "The New Birth" in "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mary Baker Eddy also proved enlightening at this period. At the very next checkup, the physician announced that the baby was in the right position, and the delivery was normal.
As a child, I suffered from mastoiditis and underwent surgery involving a lengthy hospital stay. Even after becoming a student of Christian Science, I had continued to believe that surgery had saved my life in this instance.
However, Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 240), "If mortals are not progressive, past failures will be repeated until all wrong work is effaced or rectified." Suddenly, I again began to suffer from a painful condition in the same ear. But this time I turned completely to our Father-Mother God, called a practitioner for help, and was completely healed within ten days. I am grateful for Christian Science, which is the promised Comforter.—(Mrs.) Daisy Stieber Squadra, Croton Falls, New York.
