I first turned to Christian Science...
I first turned to Christian Science when I was suffering from a nervous breakdown. This breakdown was accompanied by extreme fear, loss of appetite, and insomnia. I was finally unable to do any kind of work. A practitioner helped me through this trial; and when discouragement would tempt me, this statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was a great help (p. 410): "The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love."
My healing did not come at once, but gradually I became stronger and less fearful as I began to learn more of God and of His great love for His reflection, man. I spent a great deal of time studying Science and Health and the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly. Soon I was able to return to work, and my healing was complete.
Grief over the passing on of a dear friend was overcome when I realized that she was going on living and loving and that the Godlike qualities she reflected were being expressed by others around me. "Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord" (Jer. 23:24).
One day I awoke feeling quite ill and with a high fever. I called a practitioner immediately, and prayerful work was begun. I read from Science and Health all day, and that evening I came upon this statement from the chapter on Prayer (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,— neither in nor of matter,— and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." I felt a great sense of peace, and within two days I was up and walking.
I am grateful for all the other wonderful healings I have had and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. Class instruction was a joyous privilege and a blessing. The periodicals have been a great aid in my spiritual growth. Attendance at several Annual Meetings of The Mother Church, as well as visits to the Sanatoriums of the Christian Science Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and San Francisco, California, has given me inspiration. The love reflected to me at the Benevolent Associations brought healings of loneliness and sorrow.
I am also very grateful for the loving help of practitioners, who have been so willing to stand by in times of need. I am deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her consecrated work and love in bringing this great truth to the world.— (Miss) Rosamond Young, St.. Paul, Minnesota.
