Christian Science was brought to...
Christian Science was brought to my attention by a friend. At that time I was faced with a major operation for a fibroid tumor. Also I was burdened with sorrow and marital unhappiness, and the future looked almost hopeless.
When my friend presented me with a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I knew at once that it was what I had been searching for. I had been a student of the Bible for many years and had loved it dearly, but I no longer received the comfort from its pages that I had had in former years. This puzzled me greatly, and I prayed for inspiration.
As soon as I had read part of the first page of the Preface to Science and Health, I knew that God had answered my prayer, and I was unable to let the book alone. I wanted to read it constantly. It restored my deep love for the Bible.
The friend also took me to a Christian Science practitioner, and, through his treatment that day, I was healed of the tumor. This healing was verified later by the surgeon who was to have performed the operation. The doctors wife, who was a dear friend of mine, insisted that I be examined, although I was sure, and the examination confirmed the fact, that I was healed. This healing occurred over twenty years ago and has remained permanent.
I have been healed of many illnesses and inharmonies and have been restored more than once when the last enemy seemed very near. Severe burns, lacerations, and the effects of accidents have been healed when I have applied the truths learned from our precious textbook.
One night during the period in which I was serving as Second Reader in our branch church I awakened experiencing extreme difficulty in getting my breath, and I had a high fever. My first thought was to call for help. Then I knew that I could work out the problem alone with God as I had done on previous occasions.
I had no fear and calmly declared the truth with authority. Instantly the fever left, and my breathing became natural. In a little while I was peacefully sleeping. The trouble was so completely overcome that I did not immediately remember it the next morning when I arose. I had experienced this illness several times previously, and I believe that a doctor would have called it pneumonia. Since that healing through Christian Science, I have never had a return of the condition.
During World War II, our son had many occasions to be grateful for Christian Science. While overseas, he laid aside glasses which he had worn since childhood, and he did this while reading the small print in the Service Editions of the Bible and Science and Health. He returned home unscathed and is still receiving daily blessings from his study of Christian Science.
For a happy home, for untold blessings, for membership in The Mother Church, for branch church activity, and for daily opportunities to serve in the Christian Science movement, I am unspeakably grateful.—(Mrs.) Doris S. Bollard, North Hollywood, California.
