After many years of hardships, I said to a friend that, on top of all my other troubles, the doctors were now saying that my mother was dying. She had been ill for six months with a complication of disases, and the doctors had given her up. My friend then gave me "a cup of cold water in Christ's name" as mentioned by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in Science and Health, where she says (p. 570): "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences."

My friend said: "There is one physician who can heal your mother. It is God. You say the doctors have given her up. Give God the opportunity to heal your mother. Try Christian Science. God is the giver of all good."

He gave me several copies of the Sentinel, some copies of Christian Science lectures, and some authorized pamphlets. He then left the city. My mother was too ill to read; so I did the reading, and we prayed to God to help us understand more of His divine nature and of our relationship to Him.

In several weeks my mother was up and was doing her own work. She was completely healed. A whole new life opened up for both of us, and many wonderful things came to pass. I married the man who had presented Christian Science to us. I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and became active in God's service.

My mother and I felt that we were blessed as promised by Christ Jesus when he said (Luke 12:31), "Seek ye the kingdom of God; andall these things shall be added unto you." It was so wonderful after many years of doubt and fear to have something to cling to, something to live by and to live for. We began to enjoy that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7). I am grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy for giving us Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Bessie Geary, La Jolla, California.
