THE DIVINE LAW OF SUPPLY

In spite of the seeming complexities of present-day living, it is possible for us to demonstrate through spiritual understanding that divine Spirit supplies every human need. The Scriptures contain many illustrations of this practical truth. Hagar's finding a well of water in the wilderness of Beer-sheba (see Gen. 21:17-19); the Israelites' being fed with manna during their forty years' journey toward the Promised Land (see Ex. 16:35); Christ Jesus' feeding of the multitude with a few loaves and fishes (see Matt. 14:15-21)— these are examples which readily come to mind.

Paul must have demonstrated the divine law of supply, for he wrote in his letter to the Philippians (4:19), "My God shall supply all your need." This spiritual law is beautifully explained in these words of Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 206): "In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes,—Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply."

Thus Christian Science raises the question of supply above the realm of mere chance, above the contrivings of so-called mortal mind, into the realm of scientific demonstration in proof of man's eternal unity with God, infinite good. Today human demands appear to be to some extent artificially produced or induced by mental suggestion, for instance, by subtle propaganda and specious advertising, often long continued; but all of that is in the realm of mortal belief. False suggestion, being alien to divine law, cannot interfere with the demonstration of the divine law of supply in human experience.
