I shall be ever grateful to God...

I shall be ever grateful to God for Christian Science and for our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. In 1901, I began to study this Science, and I have never taken medicine since that time. Through the study of the textbook, Science and Health, my life has been sustained all these years. Although I am more than fourscore years, I am upright in bearing and active in the Christian Science movement.

One night I awoke from sleep in great pain. I could not stay in bed, sit down, or stand still. I began to walk back and forth in my room and to declare aloud this statement from the textbook (p. 113): "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain."

I realized that I had to contend with fear, and I kept knowing that nothing could torment or tempt me. The truth of these words from Science and Health became very clear to me (p. 421): "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him. There is no disease." I insisted vehemently on this great spiritual fact while still walking. Finally I was walking without pain, entirely free. Truth was the victor.

At another time a queer feeling came over me while I was reading, and I was in darkness. At first I thought the light had gone out; but when I looked toward the window for the street light, it was still dark. Then I realized it was error, and I began to work scientifically. This statement from the Bible came to me (I John 1:5, 6) : "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth."

Calmly I reasoned that because I was created by Him and hence was spiritual, there could be no darkness in me.

Our beloved Leader tells us the Lord's Prayer can never be repeated too often; so I repeated it with its spiritual interpretation over and over again. (See Science and Health, pp. 16, 17.) I prayerfully acknowledged my pre-existence and my coexistence with God, who is Light. As I prayed, the room was again filled with light, and I could see to read.

For a long time I was separated from my loved ones, but divine Love has united me with a grandson and his two children. I am unceasingly grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the growth of the Christian Science activities, including the work of practitioners

How I love to give this testimony to God ! "For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly" (Ps. 84:11)— (Mrs.) Catherine M. Meinhard, Phoenix, Arizona.
