LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Guardian Journal

Guardian Journal Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England

The meaning of "Christian" is, surely, "follower of Christ."

In 1879, Mary Baker Eddy and a few followers, who were known as Christian Scientists, resolved to organise a church. On the motion of Mrs. Eddy it was voted "to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Historical Sketch from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy).

Can a church founded on the basis of such a resolution be other than "Christian"?
