I was brought up in Greece by religious parents and in an orthodox church. I studied the Bible regularly as a part of my school-work. I liked and wanted to keep all the Commandments, but I could not believe the teaching that a loving God would punish His own children forever. Did not Jesus say (Matt. 22:37-40): "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets"?

After I had been in the United States for a few years, a friend brought me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and told me that it was a book I would enjoy reading. Out of curiosity I started reading it from the beginning. It was so wonderful and so enlightening that I read it for six nights up to four o'clock in the morning, although I had to be at work at seven. As I learned more and more about God, I kept thinking, "This is what I was hoping God would be." All the erroneous beliefs about Him began melting away, and a new light began to dawn.

On the seventh day I woke with a severe headache and constipation, with which I had suffered since childhood. Up to that time I had tried various remedies, and nothing had helped. But now the question came to my thought, I wonder if Christian Science could help me? I realized that I knew very little about Science except for the reading I had done and that I wouldn't even know how to start. However, I had the sincere desire to do whatever God would direct me to do, and I prayed for His guidance.
