A testimony of mine appeared in...

A testimony of mine appeared in the March 13, 1937, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel, and now again my heart overflows with thankfulness for all the blessings I have received through the years from the continued study and application of Christian Science.

As a music supervisor, visiting country schools, I have been protected during thousands of miles of driving. When my car was burned up in a garage, I looked to God for help. Through the kindness of neighbors, I was enabled to keep my schedule of visits. I was also able to get another car shortly, although this happened during World War II, when cars were difficult to obtain.

At a time when I had no home and no income, I turned to the verse in Exodus which reads (23:20), "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." As a result I was led to a good home and to satisfying activity.

One evening about five years ago, when several guests who were not Christian Scientists were in my home, I suffered a stroke and was taken to a hospital. When I realized where I was, I turned to God through repeating the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, given by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (pp. 16, 17). This stayed with me all the wakeful night, and when the doctor came in the morning, I was sitting up in bed feeling fine.

He suggested that I stay in the hospital a few days; but I knew the fact of God's presence, and on the following day I was released to go home. There were no aftereffects, and in a few days I was teaching as usual. The statement (ibid., p. 427), "Man's individual being can no more die nor disappear in unconsciousness than can Soul, for both are immortal," helped me to see the unreality of the whole experience. I am grateful for the Christian Science practitioner who helped me at the time.

One Saturday morning, more than three years ago, my daughter and I were in a city some fifty miles from home, when I became aware that something had happened to my speech. Those with whom I talked could not understand what I was saying. Since my daughter does not drive, it was necessary for me to drive the car about fifteen miles to a place where my husband was waiting. This was very difficult, since my right side was also affected; but by constantly knowing God's presence and power, I was able to arrive safely.

By Monday all traces of the difficulty had disappeared. Again the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation helped me to know that "nothing can interfere with the harmony of being nor end the existence of man in Science," as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us on page 427 of Science and Health.

Another healing was that of a painful growth on my body. I called a practitioner for help, and the next day all pain disappeared. Gradually the growth vanished.

I am very grateful that my three children were pupils in a Christian Science Sunday School. What they learned there has been a great help to them. Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, where I have served in various offices, is cause for gratitude. Class instruction and the yearly association meetings have brought me feasts of spiritual goodness.

I am grateful for every avenue through which Christian Science is giving the truth to a hungry world, and my thanks go out to Mrs. Eddy for the treasure she has given us. To follow her teachings is the greatest privilege in the world.—(Mrs.) Claribel C. Lisk, Norwich, Connecticut.
