For some time I have felt an...
For some time I have felt an earnest desire to offer my testimony in the hope that it will help others as I have been helped. The members of our family all belonged to an orthodox church until I was in my late teens. My mother was very religious; so the Bible was read to us frequently. I loved the Bible, but there was much in it that I could not understand. Before we heard of Christian Science, our home was full of sickness, discord, and lack.
Christian Science was first introduced to an older sister, who, in turn, lovingly translated the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, into Slovak so that our mother could read it. We have learned in many practical ways that there is really no such thing as limitation; for God, the Father-Mother of all, establishes, includes, and maintains His ideas. Christian Science has enabled us to understand that God is All and that man is His perfect reflection; and this has resulted in happy homes, prosperity, and harmony for the members of our family.
My eldest daughter, while in grade school, had an instantaneous healing, which was a joyous spiritual experience. There was an epidemic of polio, and she became ill with symptoms of it. We asked for the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner, and I was at her side day and night. On the fourth night, while I sat with her, I felt she was passing on, because she had gone into a coma.
My husband was not a student of Christian Science, and I had to decide whether to awaken him and tell him or depend wholly on God. Praying to be led aright, I turned wholeheartedly to God. I called the practitioner, who told me to rejoice; that all is well now because God is All-in-all.
When I returned to the child's room, I opened the Bible and read these comforting words (Ps. 23: 4): "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Then I fell asleep. In the morning I found my daughter awake and completely healed.
I am so grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving us Christian Science. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for the privilege of having served as Second Reader in this branch church. I am thankful for the faithful practitioners, who are always willing to help when called upon, and for the great privilege of class instruction.—(Mrs.) Ann Drabik Welge, Blackstone, Illinois.
