"Thy word is a lamp unto my...
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (Ps. 119:105). Through the understanding of God which I have gained from my study of Christian Science, I can say that the above Bible verse has certainly been true in my experience.
Years ago I came to this country from Poland, where I had few opportunities in my youth. Being strong and willing, I was able to find work, but some time later I contracted arthritis. Upon hearing of my trouble, my little son's violin teacher gave him a book for me to read. This book was the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy.
I was not able to read much English, but with the help of my son and with the use of an English-Polish dictionary, I grasped the meaning of a few words and later of sentences. I found Christian Science deeply satisfying as a religion and started attending a Church of Christ, Scientist, where I found the people very friendly. As a result of my reading, my health was greatly improved.
Two years later, however, I went through a severe testing time when the arthritic condition returned with such force that I had to give up my work. Also, there was another complication, which was diagnosed as double pneumonia by the company physician, who had been sent to examine me. Although I lost much weight and great fear was felt by members of my family, I turned entirely to Christian Science.
With the help of a loving practitioner, I was able to be on my feet in six weeks' time. After returning to work, I was told I need not do any heavy lifting, but I surprised my co-workers by doing all that I had formerly done.
At another time, while I was at work, my hand came in contact with a sharp blade and was badly hurt. I did not tell the other workers about this, but kept the hand covered and worked prayerfully to know the truth about the condition. In two days the hand was healed.
I am thankful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, where I am happy to serve, and for class instruction. Also I am grateful to all the good people who helped me to get a better understanding of Christian Science. I thank God for this Science.—John Wolny, Lyons, Illinois.
