I was discharged from the Army in 1918 and given a pension as a disabled veteran. A chronic abcess of one ear had progressed to the point where the eardrum was destroyed. The hearing was completely gone in the left ear and impaired in the right ear.

I was engaged to be married, but after giving me an exhaustive medical examination, my doctor told me to go home and write my will. He said that it would be necessary for me to undergo a very serious operation and that my chances of survival were probably less than 50 per cent. No assurance could be given that the healing would be complete, even if I lived.

I telephoned this depressing information to my financée, who was a student of Christian Science, and she begged me to have treatment from a practitioner before I submitted to the operation. This I did, and the operation was not performed. Within a period of less than ten days after the practitioner had given me the first treatment, the discharge from my ear completely stopped.

However, the old fear still remained, and about a year later when I got water in my ear while swimming, the discharge started again, though on a very much smaller scale. Again I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, and the discharge soon abated. Moreover, the eardrum grew back, normal hearing returned to both ears, and the healing has been permanent.

When called before the Veterans Administration for a review of my pension, I was examined by three doctors. After checking the old records of the case, examining my ears, and testing my hearing, they found it very hard to believe I was the same man described in the records. However, there was no mistake, and the pension was discontinued. For the last fifteen years I have been an active member of an athletic club, and I swim regularly without earplugs and in perfect comfort.

Christian Science has been the only physician in our family for over thirty-five years, and every inharmonious condition has been healed. Through the study and application of the truth and the splendid help of consecrated practitioners, I have been guided and protected in my business. I gratefully acknowledge the blessings Christian Science has brought to me and mine. Much harmony has resulted from my apprehension of perfect God and perfect man.
