For nearly thirty years Christian Science...

For nearly thirty years Christian Science has brought me such comfort and happiness that it is fully time that I express my gratitude and praise to God through the medium of our periodicals for all that He has done for me.

When I was feeling very sad and miserable after the passing on of a dear one, a friend visited me and spoke to me of Christian Science. He also invited me to attend a Christian Science lecture which was being given that day, and I promised to do so. At the time I was so filled with self-pity that I did not receive from the lecture as much as I should have; but it left me with a strong desire to read and study the textbook recommended, namely Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

The same friend also asked me to go with him and his wife to a Christian Science church service. After some hesitation, I promised to do so. Since that Sunday I have missed very few services.

The understanding of Christian Science came to me slowly and by degrees. However, I knew that a right comprehension of God was being unfolded to me, and I was now commencing to discover the true nature of God and His Christ. I was thinking very deeply about the step I was taking in giving up the religion in which I had been brought up, and I was praying to know more of the truth.

This passage from the Dedicatory Sermon in "Pulpit and Press" by Mrs. Eddy helped me very much (p. 3):"Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love. If you maintain this position, who or what can cause you to sin or suffer?"

Through the years I have experienced many healings, sometimes by my own understanding. I have been healed of a sprained ankle and of a broken ankle, of severe headaches, and of minor difficulties.

I should like to relate a healing which took place a year or so ago. While preparing a meal, I slipped in my kitchen and fell heavily to the floor. It was impossible to get up, and I had to call for someone to help me. The pain was severe, and I realized that the hipbone had apparently been fractured. I asked for help from a practitioner and received some relief. Some of those around me tried to persuade me to have an X ray, but I decided to rely solely on the power of God and trust Him as I had so often done in the past. The healing was not a quick one, but it taught me that thought has to be spiritualized to let in the light of Truth.

The healing of loneliness has meant very much to me. I always had a great dread of being faced with the necessity of living alone. Through having to do this I have learned that man is never alone, but is continually in the presence of Love.

I am so grateful for all the good that has come to me during the years, especially for the spiritual understanding of God and of man, made in His image and likeness. My gratitude is unbounded to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who in her unselfed love and spiritual discernment illumed the Bible and enabled us to gain a better understanding of the teachings of our Master, Christ Jesus.—(Mrs.) Rhina Spyer, London, England.
