THE DEMONSTRATION OF MAN'S DIVINE SONSHIP

In the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke it is recorded that an angel message from God came to the Virgin Mary, informing her that she would give birth to a son and that she should call his name Jesus. Mary also received this message (verse 35): "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

In Christian Science we learn that because of the spiritual nature of her consciousness, Mary was, of all women in her age, prepared to give birth to the human babe who was to bring to mankind the message of Christianity. His mission was to reveal to mankind the nature of perfect manhood, the Christ, or Son of God, and to bring the assurance of salvation from all materiality and human ills.

Mary's consciousness was so clearly enlightened by and unified with Spirit that the material law of generation was silenced, and God was demonstrated as the Father of man. This accounts for his dual nature as Christ Jesus, or, in other words, the human man named Jesus and his divine nature called Christ, or the anointed.
