I came into Christian Science...

I came into Christian Science through the reading of a Sentinel which loving hands had placed in a distribution box in a station where I was waiting for an elevated train. The truths which I read revealed to me that God is Love, as I had always thought Him to be since childhood. I had often wondered why sickness was not healed today as it was in the days when the Master, Christ Jesus, healed multitudes.

As I read further from the Sentinel and pondered the truths it presented, I could plainly see that God is the only real physician. My thought turned completely to God's spiritual idea, Christ, Truth, and away from the belief that medical remedies are necessary. I was satisfied, for I saw that Christian Science follows Jesus' teachings.

I obtained a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read it consistently. Within two weeks I was healed of an obstruction caused by adhesions which had followed an operation. Physicians, some of them close friends of my family, had said that I should remain on a diet for a period of five years. This healing took place over thirty years ago, and it has been permanent.

Also, in my immediate family I have witnessed the healing of so-called children's diseases within a few hours after Christian Science treatment had been given.

The hymns of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, have brought healing to me. At one time my employment took me where there were large crowds. Since I preferred a quiet and tranquil atmosphere, the noise and confusion were irritating. One day the crowds were more clamorous than usual. The noise was almost unbearable.

As I stood on some steps looking over a sea of faces, I decided to seek other employment. Then these words from one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, "Christ My Refuge," came to my thought (Poems, p. 13):

"Father, where Thine own children are,
I love to be."

I was instantly free and could see that everyone present was in reality an idea of God. I knew that God loved and cherished every one of them, and a great sense of joy and peace came to me. I remained in the same work for four years after that and enjoyed it. I have also experienced numerous healings during the singing of the hymns in church services.

The Christian Science Reading Rooms are an important activity. It has been my practice to visit a Reading Room daily, and I have always left refreshed and inspired after doing so.

I am grateful to God, our loving Father-Mother, for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for our revered Leader, whose writings reveal the true identity of each one of us as God's spiritual idea, made in His image and likeness.

For the many healings and blessings which have come to me and mine through the study of Christian Science, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction, I am profoundly grateful.
