Because I am so grateful for...

Because I am so grateful for Christian Science, I should like to tell how it came into my experience.

Knowing very little about Christian Science but desiring to help some relatives whose older child was seriously ill, I went into a Christian Science Reading Room one day to get some literature on the subject. I told the librarian about the situation, and she was very loving. When I left the Reading Room, I took with me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I had borrowed from the lending library.

My relatives did not accept Christian Science, but I myself continued to read Science and Health. I was reluctant to lay the book down. I did not understand all that I read, but I did understand a statement from the chapter on Prayer (p. 2), "God is Love." As a child I had heard a lot about a God of wrath and vengeance, but I had not been able to accept such a concept; so the truth that "God is Love" struck a responsive chord in my thinking, and I wanted to learn more about it.

At this time I was taking several kinds of pills for extreme fatigue. I would get up in the morning more tired than when I went to bed. If we had a social engagement in the evening, I would have to take a rest in the afternoon in order to endure an evening out. I thought that it would be hypocrisy to take medicine while reading Science and Health; so I stopped taking pills. I became so engrossed with my reading of the textbook that I never gave them another thought, and I was healed of fatigue. I enrolled our young daughter in a Christian Science Sunday School, and in a short time I joined a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.

I am grateful for an increasing understanding of and love for the Bible, for Christ Jesus, for the heavenly experience of class instruction, and for the joy of having an active part in this great movement. I love Christian Science, and each day I gain a greater appreciation of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as the Discoverer and Founder of this great truth.—(Mrs.) Delphine Eoff, St. Louis, Missouri.
