Christian Science was introduced...
Christian Science was introduced to my wife and me by a friend who lent us the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. The reading of this book revolutionized my thinking.
After reading a few pages, I threw away pills which had been taken every night over a considerable period, and chronic constipation was healed. Headaches which had troubled me for many years and for which the medical profession could do nothing were healed shortly afterwards and have never recurred.
One winter, some years later, after I had shoveled the snow away from the front of our house, a condition of hernia developed. This was healed in a short time through my knowing that God is my true support. No artificial appliance was worn, and my normal activities were continued during the experience. I was greatly helped by these lines in one of our hymns (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 144):
He holds us perfect in His love,
And we His image bear.
For many years now, Christian Science has met every need in our home, sometimes in remarkable ways. My sincere thanks are due the practitioner who has so willingly and lovingly helped me at various times.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for all of the church activities. I have helped in the duties of ushering and literature distribution, and I am now acting as assistant librarian at our Reading Room.
In these duties, I have found it true that in helping others, one helps oneself. I consider it a great privilege to serve in this way.
I can never fully express in words my gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who labored so steadfastly and sincerely to give to the world the revelation of Truth.—Edward Terry Coppin, Stockport, Cheshire, England.
When I became acquainted with Christian Science through reading a lecture in a newspaper, I decided I wanted to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had been in poor health for more than thirty years with what the doctors said was liver complaint. They gave me medicine of different kinds, but it helped me only temporarily.
I obtained the textbook from the public library and read it almost every day. However, I did not understand it very well; so I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, It was a long struggle, but with her loving patience and my daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, I was healed. The healing took place a number of years ago and has been permanent. I have also been healed of a prolapse and of hemorrhoids.
My daughter had infected tonsils, and the school nurse advised us to have them taken out; but we asked for Christian Science treatment. The next time the nurse examined her, she could find no trace of infection in the tonsils.
Once when we were on a trip, our car stopped and we could not get it started again. I began working in Christian Science, as we are taught to do. My husband went down the street a short distance to a garage, but it was near closing time, and they could not help us. My husband came back and sat in the car, but I kept working in Science and trusting God.
I looked out of the back window of the car and could see another garage down the street. I told my husband, but he said that it was just a filling station. However, he went to see if he could get help. Soon he rejoined me, looking quite discouraged.
But it was not long until a young man came and examined the car. Then he took us to a motel while he made the needed repairs. In a short time he came and told us our car was ready. We had thought we would have to wait most of the next day. I felt that God was certainly taking care of us.
I am filled with gratitude for our healings, for all that the practitioners have done for us, and for all that Mrs. Eddy has done for the world.—(Mrs.) Flora A. Clements, San Bernardino, California.
