Some time ago my wife and I were traveling in a foreign country in a tropical climate when I suddenly became seriously ill with dysentery. This occurred on a Sunday, and I endeavored to work prayerfully as we are taught in Christian Science. By the following morning I felt somewhat better, but decided to call upon a local Christian Science practitioner for help. Within two hours I was sufficiently improved to travel, and we drove in a rented car for about five hours over very difficult roads. By the time we had arrived at our destination, however, I was much worse and was hardly able to walk to the hotel room.

I retired; and as the afternoon progressed, my condition grew steadily worse. We both became somewhat alarmed, and as I had discharged the local practitioner, we decided to telephone a practitioner in the United States. However, when my wife attempted to do this, she was informed that the circuits were out of order and that a call could not be placed for at least twenty-four hours. In addition, it was not possible to call the practitioner I had had. We were therefore on our own.

Since I was quite feverish and to some extent delirious, my wife read aloud from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. This she did for several hours. By then the fever was broken, and I was resting comfortably. The following day I was up and about, eating normally, swimming strenuously, and ready to continue the trip.

We were both extremely grateful for this proof of the healing power of Truth, as taught in Christian Science, and especially for the fact that we were able to accomplish this healing quickly through our own efforts. We had found that when we overcame our fearfulness and sense of aloneness with the assuring thought that God was present with us, guiding and guarding, we were able to progress and master the discordant condition.

I have been reared in Christian Science, as has my wife, and we have demonstrated God's power and presence on many occasions. Through an understanding of God's oneness and allness I have been healed of a broken toe and have seen God's protecting hand in harmonious travel in many foreign countries and in the establishment of my own business. We have found that, as Mrs. Eddy states on page 392 of Science and Health, "The only course is to take antagonistic grounds against all that is opposed to the health, holiness, and harmony of man, God's image." —Cliff Walter Krueger, Wilmette, Illinois.

I am happy to verify my husband's testimony. At one point in the experience I found that all I was able to do was to repeatedly sing the healing words of a hymn, which reads in part (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 181):

Fear shall have no more dominion.
God is All, and heaven is here.

This experience when we were alone with God is just another proof of God's care.

In our family we have had healings of contagious diseases, colds, sprains, the effects of accidents, and other inharmonies. We are pleased to see how eager our child is to learn the simple truths of Christian Science. This child was born in our own home, and the entire experience was extremely peaceful and harmonious.

I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my business career on a part-time basis, an opportunity that unfolded after prayerful study prior to the arrival of our child. Truly we are blessed to have Christian Science and to enjoy the privilege of teaching in our Sunday School, serving on committees, partaking in the joy of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, and having the inspiration of class instruction.—(Mrs.) Caryl Waller Krueger, Wilmette, Illinois.
