The many inspiring testimonies...
The many inspiring testimonies of healing appearing in our periodicals have afforded me much gratitude. I would like to add my testimony of two healings that were evidenced quickly through the healing power of the truth, as taught in Christian Science. These healings stand out to me when I am tempted to be discouraged at times, when my progress seems slow, or when a difficulty is not overcome as quickly as I would like it to be.
When our daughter was a little girl, a small tumor appeared on her tongue. At first I did not pay much attention to it since she did not appear to be greatly annoyed by it. However, after a while it became larger, and she was constantly drawing attention to it. One day I decided that we needed help for this condition; so I took, the child to visit a practitioner. After a pleasant visit, during which we were told a great deal about God and man's relationship to Him, we left for home. On our way home we talked about God's law of perfection for His children, and our daughter felt satisfied that all would be well.
As I kissed her good night that evening, I asked her to think about what the practitioner had told her of God and to thank Him for His goodness to all mankind. She said she would. Two or three mornings later, as I awakened our daughter for school she put her tongue out, pointed to where the tumor had been, and said, "Look, Mother; it is all gone." To me, this was a proof of the Bible statement (Hebr. 4:12), "The word of God is quick, and powerful." The tumor did not return.
Another healing I like to recall was one of a badly burned hand. I was joyously preparing dinner for company and had heated my oven to five hundred degrees Fahrenheit for quick baking. When I opened the oven, without thinking I grabbed the handle of a heavy iron skillet which had been in the oven and which was extremely hot by this time.
As I pulled my hand away, I saw a deep red imprint of the handle in my palm. I realized instantly that here was an opportunity for me to prove what I knew of Christian Science. Although I was alone in the house at the time, I was expecting my daughter very soon and did not want her to know what had happened.
I put my hand behind my back and started declaring aloud "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). Finally I realized that the pain was lessening, and before very long I was again going about the preparation of dinner as though nothing had happened. Not until hours later did I look at the palm, and then I saw only a pink mark; all pain had left, and the flesh was smooth. Later, even the mark disappeared.
For these and many other blessings, I am truly grateful. My gratitude goes out to God for giving us Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.— (Mrs.) Christine Tait, Miami, Florida.
