Christian Science is the only religion...

Christian Science is the only religion I have ever known, and my gratitude for its protection, its healing power, and its guiding influence throughout my life is boundless. Mine was a childhood almost free from fear of sickness, contagion, or accident. As a result of the practical application of Christian Science, which teaches of God's ever-encompassing love and protecting care for His little ones, I had few so-called children's diseases. When the symptoms appeared, my mother would turn on them instantly with such vigorous denials, followed by powerful affirmations of Truth, that the symptoms would shortly vanish.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, states in Science and Health (p. 390), "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought." I am gratefully learning to prove for myself and my family the value of obedience to this admonition. By denying the claims of error immediately upon detection, allowing them no opportunity to grow in size, shape, or form, we spare ourselves much unnecessary labor and painful retracing of steps.

I rejoice that my husband is now an earnest student of Christian Science. Since our marriage he has witnessed many substantial proofs of the efficacy of this practical religion. One such proof occurred when our second child was born most harmoniously at home, seven years after the birth of our first son. Very little discomfort was experienced, and the baby was born about half an hour after I had taken to my bed.

When the attending physician stated that there would be several hours to wait, this verdict was telephoned to the Christian Science practitioner on the case, and in about five minutes the child was born. The doctor marveled at the case and freedom he saw manifested. In this experience I find myself most grateful for the spiritual unfoldment which came to me in the preceding months through faithful, daily study. To the dear Christian Scientist who worked for me, step by step along the way, I am indeed grateful.

In our family there have been healings of scarlet fever, tonsillitis, whooping cough, bronchial pneumonia, and symptoms of polio. Severe laryngitis was healed prior to a professional engagement involving more than an hour of continuous singing and speaking. A leg which was evidently broken was healed in less than two weeks without recourse to medical aid of any kind. A healing of mumps took place in our summer camp for boys, and no discomfort was experienced. In spite of a medical opinion that the disease would spread through the camp, not another case developed.

Our work in private school teaching has benefited greatly by the spiritual growth which comes through the study and application of Christian Science, and each new-step forward has been taken under God's guidance. Our summer camp has also been immeasurably blessed and protected by our deep desire to realize that it is in God's care.

I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for the privilege of serving as soloist for many years, and for the joyous experience of class instruction. And what a blessing it is to have our children attend the Christian Science Sunday School and to enjoy the Christian Science periodicals and the inspiring musical messages found in our Christian Science Hymnal! My heart sings out in gratitude unbounded to our Father-Mother God, as well as to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. —(Mrs.) Christine A. Ranft, Waterbury, Connecticut.

I am happy to verify my wife's testimony and to express gratitude for many healings which have taken place in our family. I was healed of the smoking habit and a painful wart on the sole of my foot. A growing understanding of God as the only Mind is helping me greatly in my schoolteaching, and many times we have proved that God is our source of supply.
